About musica intima
the most exciting small choir in the land
John Fraser National Post
Internationally renowned for performances and recordings that sparkle with fresh insight and vibrant musicality, musica intima has earned a reputation as one of Canadas most exciting vocal ensembles.
What makes this group tick? The 12 professional singers rehearse and perform without a conductor. In rehearsal, they exchange ideas freely while exploring their own musical creativity. In performance, they engage the audience with a spontaneity and freshness all their own.
A distinctly Canadian ensemble, musica intimas members hail from coast to coast. They regularly commission and perform works by Canadas leading composers and perform throughout the country. The twelve members all have busy careers contributing to Canadas cultural life as teachers, soloists, music directors, composers and arrangers.
In addition to an annual series of self-produced concerts, musica intima collaborates with other arts organizations and artists such as Coastal Sound Music Academy, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Pacific Baroque Orchestra, cellist Steven Isserlis, pianist/composer Uri Caine, and writer/broadcaster Bill Richardson.
musica intimas concerts and recordings are often heard on national and international broadcasts. Their acclaimed CDs include musica intima (MI001), clear (ACD22227), invocation (ACD22284), nativité (MVCD 1154), Tormis: Forgotten Peoples (ACD22354), and o nata lux (ACD2 2577). The ensemble has also been involved in recording projects with artists as diverse as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, composer Owen Underhill, and rock musician Matthew Good.
Young and exciting, musica intima is fast becoming known as one of the musical worlds newest gems.
