mozartica intima

CBC Radio Two is celebrating the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth with a veritable extravaganza of Mozart performances, recordings, documentaries and contests -- and musica intima is taking part! What's more, you are invited to come down to Studio One and take in the performance free of charge.

Our contribution to the festivites is a 30-minute programme called "mozartica intima". We will perform some rarely heard canons by WAM, ranging from secular Italian canons on various themes to a couple of rather crude canons! (We're not kidding -- they merit an "explicit content" warning!) musica intima will also perform the motet Ave verum corpus with organ. Rodney Sharman, the commentator, will explain why the crude canons say about Mozart and why they were supressed by Constanze Mozart until well after his death. (This "sacred and profane" programme foreshadows our upcoming Poulenc concert, "The Monk and the Hooligan".)

The day starts with DiscDrive and Jurgen Gothe live from Studio One, followed by a whole day of WAM's music, free admission, Mozart passports, prizes and diversions.

Those of you unable to attend in person may wish to listen in on CBC Radio Two. (Sorry, Westcoast Performance is only broadcast in BC.)

"Mozart, Noon and Night" takes place Friday, January 27th, 11AM to 10ish PM (musica intima performs from 2:00-2:30 PM.)

Admission is free!
