New General Manager crowned at musica intima
Vancouver, BC–musica intima is excited to announce its new general manager, Janna Crown. A native of Vancouver, Janna brings a wide variety of experience to her new role.
Janna graduated from Queen's University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance where she was proudly one of the founding artists/producers of the entirely student run Queens' Student Opera - today the QSO performs full staged operas in Kingston.
She returned to the west coast and subsequently worked for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra from 2002-2004 as Production Coordinator. Most recently, Janna worked as the General Manager of the Vancouver Cantata Singers from 2006-2008. During that time she worked closely with the Board of Directors and Artistic Director Eric Hannan. Her energy, enthusiasm and fresh ideas helped shape a new direction for the choir as it moves into its 51st season.
“The board feels very fortunate to have Janna as our new General Manager,” commented musica intima Board President, Gordon Hauka. “We know she brings the skills, talents and energy needed for intima to keep moving forward.”
Janna was also recently selected by the Minerva Foundation’s Follow A Leader™ program which selects women who are emerging leaders in their communities and helps them to forward their careers through a series of leadership training workshops and job-shadowing opportunities.
Janna's managerial and production experience is complemented by a love and passion for vocal music, and a dedication to the performing arts. In addition to managing the Vancouver Cantata Singers, Janna also worked as an Associate Producer with CBC radio and as a Production Manager with the Turning Point Ensemble. She is also known in the arts community for her work with Sikora’s Classical Records.
Founded in 1992, musica intima has become an integral part of Vancouver’s cultural fabric. The 12 professional singers rehearse and perform without a conductor. Known around the world for their warm and engaging stage presence, impeccable musicianship, and unique perspective on ensemble singing, musica intima has appeared in France at Polyfollia, the American Choral Directors Association Conventions in
Hartford and Vancouver, Cork International Choral Festival in Ireland, and at the World Symposium on
Choral Music in Copenhagen, Denmark.
“musica intima is such an exciting and vital organization, bringing unique and fresh concert experiences to
audiences throughout Canada and around the world.” said Janna Crown. “They are truly one of the best
vocal ensembles in North America, and I am thrilled to join them as they continue to pursue artistic
excellence.”
