musica intima is looking for a new general manager.

Position Summary

 

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall operations of the organization and ongoing management of the Society.  The GM advises the Board on matters pertaining to the welfare of the organization including financial management, marketing, and development initiatives.  The GM provides leadership, develops and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and supports the Society in fostering private, public, and community support.

Qualifications

 

  • Degree in Arts Management/Administration OR experience as an effective leader in a non-profit organization.

  • Excellent writing, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to foster collaboration and innovation, to problem solve creatively, to inspire others, and to work effectively within a diffuse power structure.

  • The desire to advocate for the Society with positive energy and integrity in the pursuit of artistic and organizational excellence.

  • Proficiency in online and social media marketing as well as familiarity with QuickBooks, InDesign, Photoshop, or CRM software is considered an asset.

 

Job Duties

 

Management:

  • Manages the organization in support of the Society’s mission, vision, mandate, and values;

  • Shares involvement with Artistic Manager (AM) on an ex-officio member on Board Committees as necessary

  • Works with the AM in support of artistic planning, development, and programming.

  • Prepares contracts with artists

  • Negotiates and prepares all rental contracts.

  • Maintains database of funders and community contacts together with AM.

 

Financial Management:

  • Develops and implements the annual budget, in consultation with the AM, Bookkeeper, Board Treasurer and Board of Directors;

  • Oversees the financial management of the organization in conjunction with the Treasurer and Bookkeeper;

  • Generates quarterly financial reports;

 

Marketing and Fundraising:

  • Liaises with Communications Manager (CM) about strategic marketing initiatives

  • Together with Board, AM and CM devises longer term development strategies and undertakes fundraising initiatives, overseeing office involvement in annual campaigns and solicitations.

  • Successfully identifies and encourages sponsorships from corporate donors

 

Grant Writing:

  • Prepares administrative reporting and support material of grants in conjunction with AM.

  • Researches grant and foundation opportunities; solicits private foundation support  

 

Concert Production

  • Responsible for implementation of Front of House practices at concerts throughout the season

  • Effectively manages and recruits Front-of-House volunteers

  • Manages audience relations and creates welcoming atmosphere at concerts

  • Responsible for preparation and delivery of all materials required for all concerts

Founded in 1992, musica intima has become an integral part of Canada’s cultural fabric. The ensemble regularly commissions and premieres works by Canadian composers (seventeen to date). The ensemble has graced the stages of Canada’s best known festivals, and has championed contemporary Canadian vocal repertoire in concert halls all over the world. musica intima is frequently heard on national and international radio broadcasts, and has released ten commercial recordings. Recent highlights include recording “thirst” (2015) which was released on the composer- and artist-run Redshift label, a tour to Korea (2016), the independent release of the seasonal EP ‘Songs for a Winter’s Night’ (2018), and the Chan Centre-presented collaboration with vocalist and improviser Bobby McFerrin (2019).
