Lang: Ave Maria

Recorded December 2020 at Christ Church Cathedral

Local Vancouver church musician and composer, Rupert Lang's lush harmonic writing has always felt like home for musica intima, and Lang's Ave Maria, written in 2014, is no exception. The piece alternates between solo trios and full choir textures, adding drama and mystery to this familiar Marian text. Like many of Lang's works, the piece builds to an expansive climax, which enables the voices of musica intima to dig into the rich language.
