“The underlying passion of mine is to spread the Cree Language, the language of my people nation-wide.”               - Sherryl Sewepagaham, composer

After 30 years of commissioning new works and bringing groundbreaking music to Vancouver audiences, musica intima has curated a new body of repertoire from a plurality of diverse voices - our new canon.  We want to share this canon created by friends of mi past and present, with you, our beloved audience.

Experience the backbone of musica intima’s repertoire, and join us for a glass of wine at an informal evening exploring some of our favourites!

“I am exploring how I can be an empowered voice for the various communities I identify with and represent. I envision my music from Page to Performance, through Pedagogy, and am finding ways to be supportive of those who are allies for cultural acknowledgement of repertoire programming of my music.”
     - Tracy Wong, composer

The New Canon will also be presented in Abbotsford, on September 20, 2024, at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium.  Tickets for that concert can be purchased through Valley Concert Society.

With music by Ian Cusson, Sherryl Sewepagaham, Tracy Wong, Dominique Fils-Aime, Nicholas Kelly, and more, come launch the 24/25 season with us! The New Canon is pay-what-you-can - register today in our shop!

“You start with emotion, and that gives you melody and rhythm, and then comes feeling and words.  Feeling is the key, the heart is the rhythm, and you follow with your heart.”
     - Dominique Fils-Aimé, composer

The New Canon is generously supported by the Province of British Columbia, through the BC Fairs, Festivals, and Events initiative, and by the SOCAN Foundation.

YOUR SUPPORT IS OUR LIFEBLOOD

musica intima exists to create incredible moments—to share the power of music with our audiences, and invite them into our circle of sound. Your financial support of the ensemble’s professional performance, touring, recording, and community outreach initiatives remains invaluable.

As with most not-for-profit arts organizations, ticket revenue only accounts for a small portion of our total budget. If you have been touched by musica intima’s performances, please consider a tax-deductible gift to the musica intima society. Your continued support of one of Canada’s musical gems is vital, allowing us to continue presenting world-class performances at home and abroad, and supporting generations of professional musicians.
