Britten: Jesu, as thou art our Saviour

Recorded December 1998 at Ryerson United Church

Excerpted from his 1933 choral variations, ‘A Boy Was Born’, this motet alternates haunting choral harmonies with a soaring soprano calling out ‘Jesu’. While it only made it on to our 2006 Christmas CD, O nata lux, the piece has long been a favourite of musica intima, with most performances over the years featuring veteran soprano Siri Olesen.
