About the event

RENDER

“What is grief, if not love persevering?”      -WandaVision, S01E08

What are the threads that weave us together?

in song in story in memories recalled in things unseen

lines in a sound wave      shadows on the water      colours in the light through a tree’s leaves

cyclical and eternal. ebbing and flowing.

musica intima will reweave these threads into a web that connects all of us who experience fundamental humanity: to love and to lose.

Joined by guest instrumentalists Mark Takeshi McGregor (flute), Meaghan Williams (bass), and Martin Fisk (marimba), the ensemble will perform Vancouver composer Joelysa Pankanea’s companion pieces on the death of her parents, “The First Stage” and “The Fifth Stage,” alongside music from American composers Brad Wells (“Render”) and Reena Esmail (the Canadian Premiere of “She Will Transform You”) and a new work by Vancouver-based Innu composer Alex Vollant, “Nukum.”

The First Stage explores themes of illness and death, and includes strong language; this concert may not be suitable for all audiences.
