musica intima has explored several pieces by James MacMillan over the years, but this is likely the most simple - written for a college choir, as opposed to MacMillan’s more complex works. An Advent invocation, even with an economy of voices, MacMillan manages to create rich harmonic shifts and subtle word painting.
