McDonald: Moonset
Recorded October 2020 at Mountainview Cemetery
Local BC composer Don Macdonald has a long association with musica intima dating back to his time as a founding member of the group. Moonset, one of seven movements of the larger work, Fireflowers, sets poetry by E. Pauline Johnson, a Mohawk-Canadian 19th century poet. Macdonald's setting beautifully depicts majestic natural imagery of
'The cedars, chanting vespers to the sea,
Await its answering,
That comes in wash of waves along the strand,
The while the moon slips into shadow-land'.
